Connecting the Hawkesbury Community

Hawkesbury Dementia Action Groups is a local community group bringing together people living with dementia, carers, families, community members, service providers and local organisations across the Hawkesbury.

Our aim is simple: to make dementia information and support easier to find, create stronger local connections and give people affected by dementia a place where they can learn, share and be heard.

We believe that the people who live, work and care in the Hawkesbury are the best people to help us understand what the community needs.

That is why our group is shaped by the community itself.

What Happens at Our Meetings?

Every meeting is different because we respond to what our community wants to learn about.

We invite local organisations, professionals, researchers and community services to speak about topics that can support people living with dementia and their families.

Topics may include:

  • Understanding dementia

  • Caring for someone living with dementia

  • Carer wellbeing

  • Local aged care and community services

  • Brain health

  • Dementia research

  • Legal and planning information

  • Support after diagnosis

  • Community activities and social connection

  •

There is also plenty of time to ask questions, meet other people and simply have a conversation.

Sometimes the most important part of a meeting is knowing that you are sitting with people who understand.

Building a Dementia-Friendly Hawkesbury

Our Hawkesbury group is about more than monthly meetings. We want to bring together people living with dementia, carers, families, community organisations, local services and professionals to better understand what support already exists, where the gaps are and what would make life easier for people affected by dementia in our area.

One of our priorities is making information and local support easier to find, easier to understand and easier to access. We also want to make sure the ideas and experiences of local people help guide what happens next.

You do not need to be an expert to contribute. Lived experience, local knowledge and simple ideas can all help us build a more informed, inclusive and dementia-friendly Hawkesbury.

We want to hear from you. Your ideas can help shape what our community does next.
